General News

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Burkina Faso of Ghana’s readiness to help them in the fight against terrorism which hit parts of the country recently.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Burkina Faso of Ghana’s readiness to help them in the fight against terrorism which hit parts of the country recently.

Whilst expressing Ghana’s solidarity with the country’s latest terrorism attack, he stated that, “What you have to know is that the Ghanaian people are in full solidarity with you over these events.”

President Akufo-Addo told his Burkinabe counterpart that the fight against terrorism was a fight for all Africans and not just Burkina Faso.

He gave this assurance yesterday when the President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, paid a day’s working visit to Ghana to meet him at the Jubilee House.

The two leaders discussed issues on peace, security, and trade within the ECOWAS Sub Region

President Akufo Addo described the relationship between the two countries as very important.

“Our two countries have a lot in common. We have a lot of common history, obviously common geography and we also share common views on many of the issues that confront West Africa, Africa and the world,” he said.

According to him, he was optimistic that the relationship both countries share would be enhanced and consolidated.

He added that it was in the interest of the two countries to work together for their own interest because of the common problems shared by both countries.

President Akufo-Addo also reminded the Burkinabe President that the problems can be dealt with in a progressive manner if both countries cooperate.

President Akufo-Addo mentioned that common issues which include transshipment of goods between the two countries, the Fulani menace, how to improve trading relations between businessmen in the two countries, which he stressed, were essential to the growth of both economies.

Describing President Kabore’s visit as fruitful, President Akufo-Addo noted that three important conclusions were arrived.

He added that there was the need for us in Ghana to step up and organise the joint commission for cooperation, revealing that it was Ghana’s turn to host it in Accra.

“We are also responsible for convening a meeting of the Volta Basin Authority which about six countries in the region are members of and definitely, also, we have agreed upon quarterly meetings within the year between the two sets of ministers of our countries,” the President further stated.
