The alleged attack on a journalist with the Multimedia Group of Companies, by Hajia Fati, a known sympathizer of the New Patriotic Party, has been condemned by the Party.

Acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, in a press release, stated that the NPP aside condemning the act, was also distancing itself from it.

He added that the party respects the media and would not in any way tolerate attacks on them.

“The party wishes to assure Ghanaian journalists that, it respects and cherishes the role of the media as partners in development and does not condone any action intended to suppress press freedom,” Mr Boadu said in the statement.

He urged the media not to feel intimidated and continue to discharge their duties without fear.

“Though the New Patriotic Party has already begun an internal enquiry into the alleged incident, we will also cooperate with other agencies investigating same,” he stated.

Adom FM journalist, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa, was on Friday allegedly assaulted by popular NPP supporter, Hajia Fati, at the party headquarters.

Haji Fati allegedly is believed to have punched the lips of the radio presenter for attempting to take a shot of her.

Narrating the incident, Sakyiwaa said the assault happened after Hajia Fati tried to prevent the suspended Second Vice Chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe, from picking a form for the Chairmanship position.
